Biden-Harris Administration Expands Opportunities for Latino Communities

President Biden and Vice President Harris have announced new efforts to support Latino families and communities across the United States. These initiatives aim to create more jobs, help Latino entrepreneurs start businesses, and improve educational opportunities. One key action is the establishment of the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). With over 500 HSIs educating millions of students, this initiative will enhance educational programs and align them with national economic needs, especially in fields like STEM.

In addition, the Administration is taking steps to reform the immigration system to be more fair and just, including facilitating pathways for families to stay together. Furthermore, the Administration has set an Aug. 19 application date for undocumented spouses. These actions are part of broader efforts to ensure equitable access to opportunities and support for immigrant families navigating the complexities of the U.S. immigration process, and to provide quicker access to work visas for young people, including Dreamers. Additionally, expanding the “Attorney of the Day” program to provide legal assistance in more immigration courts nationwide is also part of these efforts.

Today’s announcements build on previous actions by the Administration to lower unemployment among Latinos, support Latino-owned businesses, and expand access to healthcare and education benefits. These measures underscore the Administration’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring every family has a fair shot at achieving the American Dream.
